About Swick’s Kitchen & Emporium
Family-owned. Scratch-made. Proudly rooted in Montgomery County, Indiana.
Who We Are
We’re Candace and Joe Swick—longtime food lovers, proud locals, and the hearts behind Swick’s Kitchen & Emporium. Joe’s a lifelong Montgomery County resident with roots that run deep through generations. Candace moved here 14 years ago to raise her daughters in a small town that values family, community, and good food made with care.
What started as a love for hosting family dinners, holidays, and backyard BBQs has grown into something bigger than we imagined. Joe’s passion for wood-smoked meats (and his title of Pitmaster, earned through years of perfecting his craft and a few awards along the way) and Candace’s obsession with baking, kitchen tools, and vintage hospitality now live under one roof at our storefront in historic downtown Crawfordsville.
Our Home on Market Street
We’ve brought new life to a fully restored, turn-of-the-century building at 115 W. Market Street, once a beloved greasy spoon café. Now lovingly dubbed the 'Belle of Market Street', our space is home to our catering kitchen, bakery case, to-go smokehouse, and curated pantry shop.
We’re not a dine-in restaurant—but we’ve got all kinds of deliciousness waiting for you to take home.
:: OUR MISSION ::
At Swick’s Kitchen & Emporium, our mission is simple: to bring people together over incredible food made the right way—slow, from scratch, and with care. We follow time-honored cooking traditions, using high-quality ingredients and patience to create meals that feel like home. We’re not concerned with taking longer, we’re concerned that every bite of food that comes
out of our kitchen is something to talk about and remember. Through our catering, storefront,
and community involvement, we strive to provide warm hospitality, sustainable practices, and a connection to the past while serving the future.
:: OUR VALUES ::
CRAFT & QUALITY
We believe good food takes time. That’s why we slow-smoke our meats, craft our sides from scratch, and bake our desserts with family recipes passed down for generations.
SUSTAINABILITY
We are committed to reducing waste by offering eco-friendly packaging, reusable mason jars, and sustainable kitchen products. We believe in bringing back old-fashioned, earth-friendly habits in a modern way.
COMMUNITY FIRST
Montgomery County is home. We support local organizations like Feed the Fam, give back to school sports programs, and Joe has volunteered as North Montgomery High School’s baseball coach for over a decade. We believe in showing up for our neighbors and lifting each other up.
